How to iron Perler beads

Fusing is where good bead art gets ruined. The same steps work for Perler, Hama and Artkal — “fuse”, “melty” and “iron beads” are all the same craft. The goal is rings that just melt together — not flattened blobs and not loose beads.

  1. 1

    Set up a stable surface

Keep beads on the pegboard. Work on a hard, heat-safe surface so the layout does not shift.

  2. 2

    Cover with ironing paper

Lay parchment or the paper from the bead kit over the design. Never touch the iron directly to beads.

  3. 3

    Use medium heat, no steam

Set the iron to medium (no steam). Move it in slow circles for 10–20 seconds, checking often.

  4. 4

    Check, then flip

Lift the paper to check the rings have just fused. Let it cool, pop it off the board, then lightly iron the back.

  5. 5

    Flatten while warm

Press the still-warm piece under a flat heavy object so it cools dead flat instead of curling.
